“A Walk Along the Streetcar Line”
This year’s tour explored the route of the streetcar line through Mission Hills and the beautiful homes built along the route. The docent-led walk included details about Kate Sessions’ nursery that was adjacent to the rails, the development that was spurred by the streetcar line, and the builders and early residents of the area. The walk included the historic district based on the final extension of the streetcar line. While the rails are no longer there, a vintage streetcar that once ran the streets of San Diego was featured on the tour.

Mission Hills Heritage had its Fall Walking Tour on Saturday, September 25, 2010. The walking tour explored the pending Annex (yellow area on the map) to the Mission Hills Historic District, which includes the area between Sunset Boulevard, Witherby Street, Hickory and St. James, and blocks in between. The area includes homes of great historic interest, including ten homes currently historically designated, and many other homes with great stories. Architectural styles of homes on these blocks include Craftsman, Prairie, Tudor and Spanish Revival.
The Spring 2010 tour was entitled “Views to Mission Valley” and spotlighted the less-publicized subdivision of Arnold & Choates Addition, and secluded Avalon Heights.
Mission Hills Heritage featured homes of South Mission Hills in the 5th Annual Historic Home Tour. Each year Mission Hills Heritage highlights a unique set of homes that represents the great richness and diversity of our community. While home tours in recent years have focused on North Mission Hills, South Mission Hills has just as many splendid homes and as rich and interesting a history.
What better way to celebrate the first 100 years of Mission Hills and to launch the second century than to get a look inside some of the wonderful neighborhood homes during the Fourth Annual Mission Hills Heritage Historic Home Tour. Mission Hills Heritage showcased the newly granted Mission Hills Historic District and the Fort Stockton Line Historic District with a home tour featuring five privately-owned historic and architecturally diverse homes from these districts.
