Mission Hills Heritage regretfully announces the loss of another bungalow in the Mission Hills Neighborhood. 4080 Goldfinch Street was a 1911 Craftsman-style bungalow, relatively unmodified, with original leaded-glass wood-framed windows, original wood siding, wooden porch with tongue-andgroove floor, decoratively carved rafter tails, wooden knee-brackets supporting wide eaves and a shedroof dormer window facing the front. The foundation wall was composed of cast concrete “stone” block, typical in the early 20th Century. This house was one of four remaining bungalows on the west side of the 4000 block of Goldfinch Street. City staff granted the demolition permit for this house with the justification that there are many other Craftsman bungalows in San Diego with similar character!
